Day Tours and Vacations for Animal-Lovers
If your family loves animals, you may enjoy visiting a sanctuary or care farm.
Many sanctuaries and care farms offer tours, volunteer opportunities, and even overnight stays. These types of vacations are family-friendly and rewarding for people of all ages. Kids especially enjoy interacting not just with dogs and cats, but also with friendly pigs, goats, cows, rabbits, llamas, horses, and other rescued animals. Sanctuary tours are often educational, too.
If you travel with your pets, please keep in mind that they may not be able to visit the sanctuary with you. If the facility does not allow pets, make sure that your hotel will permit you to leave them in your room. Otherwise, you may have to find daycare for your pets.
One more note: A few of the sanctuaries on our list have a "no meat" policy. Some ask visitors to refrain from bringing any animal products, including milk or cheese, onto the property. This is out of respect for the rescued animals. For more information on policies, as well as visiting hours and tour information, please visit the sanctuary website.
